Zambia Air Force club Red Arrows have arrived safely in Port Louis, Mauritius, as they prepare for the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie against Madagascar’s Rouge FC.
The Zambian side travelled to Mauritius on Friday, 11 September, ahead of Sunday’s decisive match. The team departed Lusaka and travelled through Johannesburg before connecting to Mauritius aboard an Air Mauritius flight. They arrived at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport at 18:52 Mauritius time.
Red Arrows Carry a 2-0 Advantage
Red Arrows enter the return fixture with a strong advantage after recording a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Lusaka.
The team will now look to protect that advantage and secure progression to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. However, head coach Chisi Mbewe has warned his players not to become complacent.
Mbewe said the team must remain cautious, make the most of its opportunities and complete the job in Mauritius.
Rouge FC Host the Match in Mauritius
Although Rouge FC are from Madagascar, the club is playing its home fixture in Mauritius because Madagascar currently does not have a stadium certified by CAF for international matches.
This means the return leg will be played at Cote d’Or Stadium in Mauritius, giving Red Arrows a different environment for the crucial encounter.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 16:30 Mauritius time on Sunday.
Team Begins Preparations
Following their arrival, the Red Arrows delegation travelled to Le Suffren Hotel, where the team is staying during its time in Mauritius.
The players are expected to have a light training session to recover from the journey and shake off any effects of travel before completing their official preparations at Cote d’Or Stadium.
Red Arrows Urged to Avoid Complacency
Red Arrows Director of Sports Col Maureen Sililo also urged the players to approach the match as a completely new contest rather than relying on their two-goal first-leg advantage.
She stressed that the team should not be satisfied with the result in Lusaka and should aim to win the return fixture outright.
The Zambia Air Force Command has also expressed its support for the team as it seeks a positive result in Mauritius.
CAF Progression in Sight
With a two-goal advantage already secured, Red Arrows are in a favourable position heading into the second leg. However, continental football can produce unexpected results, making concentration and discipline important throughout the match.
For the Zambian club, Sunday’s fixture represents an opportunity to finish the preliminary-round tie strongly and move forward in the CAF Confederation Cup.
